Lakewood Health System to Offer Parkinson’s-Specific Exercise Classes to Help Patients Stay Active and Independent

Lakewood Health System’s rehabilitation department is excited to share a new opportunity available to those living with Parkinson’s disease: PWR!Moves group exercise classes—a Parkinson’s-specific program designed to help people stay active, strong, and independent.

PWR!Moves is a research-based exercise class that focuses on "making function exercise" by targeting key fitness areas: strength, balance, agility, aerobics, and flexibility. This full-body workout is designed to help people move better and do more of what they love—while addressing the physical and cognitive challenges of Parkinson’s disease.

Each session is held in a supportive, energizing group environment where people will be safely challenged to push their limits and improve their daily activity. The exercises are purposeful, engaging, and adapted to each individual’s abilities. Each session will be led by PWR!Moves certified therapist, Michelle Anderson, PTA.

This class will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 to 1 p.m., beginning September 2nd, and will take place in the Rehabilitation gym on the lower level of Lakewood Health System’s Main Campus in Staples. Thanks to the generosity of Lakewood Health System Foundation donors, there is no cost to participants.

Lakewood Health System will offer weekly grief support group meetings to be held every Tuesday from September 23 through October 28, 2025, from 3-4:30 p.m. at Sourcewell. Anyone grieving the loss of a loved one, child or any other loss is welcome to attend one or all meetings.

As a participant in the grief support group, you will have the opportunity to share with others who have also experienced recent grief and loss. Sharing is encouraged at your own comfort level. Everyone experiences the grief journey as an individual; the journey – when shared – can be a source of inspiration and comfort to you, as well as others.

In healing, there is hope for the future. The grief support group can help you move forward towards healing. Please join us as we encourage one another through mutual support. The group is facilitated by chaplain, Paul Johnson and social worker, Lindsay Kirk.

    Session dates:
    September 23
    September 30
    October 7
    October 14
    October 21
    October 28

For additional information on the grief support program and to register for the group, please contact Paul Johnson at 218-894-8093.
