Comfort Gets an Upgrade with Lakewood Health System’s Newest Mammogram Technology

Lakewood Health System is proud to have been among the first facilities in the area to offer Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exams, and are thrilled to announce the addition of the SmartCurve® breast stabilization system—designed to reduce discomfort and improve image clarity. With this new technology, Lakewood reaffirms its commitment to providing patients with the most advanced diagnostic tools available.

Utilizing advanced breast tomosynthesis technology, 3D Mammography™ exams are clinically proven to significantly increase the detection of breast cancers while decreasing the number of women asked to return for additional testing. It can mean an earlier detection and diagnosis of breast cancer, and a greater variety of treatment options available to the patient. Aided by the addition of the SmartCurve®, which is a curved compression surface that mirrors the natural shape of the breast to more evenly distributed pressure and reduce pinching, this newest technology is the most gentle and thorough available.

“This new SmartCurve® technology marks a significant milestone in our commitment to our community's health,” said Lakewood Director of Radiology, TJ McCall. “By continuing to further enhance our capabilities for early breast cancer detection, we're reinforcing our dedication to providing superior care and comfort to patients.”

In offering the SmartCurve® technology addition to the existing 3D Mammography™ technology, Lakewood takes a proactive step towards enhancing the quality and comfort of breast cancer screening in our community. Patients interested in learning more about getting a 3D Mammography™ exam should talk with their primary care provider. The exam is covered by 95% of insurance plans for women ages 40 to 74.
